Emily de Molly Insipid on Butter London The Full Monty

Easter long weekend! Moving to London on Thursday! It's all happening now. I had my last day of work yesterday, then went to a screening of The Heckler at the ACMI and afterwards meet up with an old friend for a drink. Next thing I knew, I was stumbling out of a gay bar at 4am. Nursing a very big hangover today.

Anyhow, my nails! I am quite pleased with this layering combo. I don't think it is very common - mostly I see these flakies sponged on for an opaque look or layered over a dark base.

I think the gold of The Full Monty looks much more interesting with a coat or two of Emily de Molly Insipid. I used Celestial Cosmetics Solar Ray QD top coat. I must admit I don't know how it's a quick dry - I only use it when I have plenty of time to sit and let it dry (like today, thanks to the aforementioned hangover).

A very lady-like two-toned pastel colour block manicure

I wanted something that looked a bit interesting and matched my outfit, but didn't have the time to go all out. Then I saw this manicure tutorial on the Lulu blog and realised I could adapt it for my outfit.I had a lovely lavender purple that I wanted to try out. It's a Napoleon polish, but I have a feeling it may only come as a limited edition with this clutch bag set (white swan). I'd gotten it for my sister as a birthday present, because I knew she'd like the purple, but the ungrateful b***h didn't like the bag and didn't even bother looking inside. SO IT'S ALL MINE NOW.

What do you think? It's not quite as neat, but I did paint this just before going to bed and I was more concerned about time then perfection. Plus adding the UV topcoat, made it even thicker. Next time, I will definitely wait a bit longer between layers and do thinner coats.

I was worried the lavender would be hard to get opaque, but it actually goes on really well. I am very happy with it and it's the only light purple in my whole collection.

Btw, the mint is my trusty Sally Hansen and the gold is the only polish I have that comes with a stripper brush. I picked that up in either Germany or Austria last year.

Boxing Day sales goodies and a belated Christmas present

Sometimes, trying to find a gift is hard. And knowing that it might be on sale the day after is just infuriating. So my sister decided to take advantage of the sales to find me a present. Although it wasn't on sale in the end, she did also pick up a half priced OPI gift set while she picked up the OPI Euro Centrale mini polish collection. I, too, picked up a bottle of liquid sand on sale, in a brighter shade of blue.

I also picked up some Illamasqua polishes and a interesting Revlon one for $3. After my smelly Boe purchases from Big W the other day, I have decided to go for quality over quantity with polishes (oh the stink of those glitter toppers still makes me grimace). Not shown is the 6 lipstick set from Illamasqua that my sister got and, of which I've taken two.

I also found a Review dress that I liked (they have such big sales regularly that I can't help but wonder what their margins actually are). And my sister wanted to check out EB games, and I ended up with a couple of days somehow as well.

All things considered, this was a very modest spree - the Euro Centrale shouldn't even appear in the photo since it was a gift!

Of course, I had to try my new polishes straight away.

So the polishes from L-R are: Can't Find My Czechbook, Suzi's Hungary AGAIN!, You're Such a BudaPest, OY-Another Polish Joke!

OY-Anothr Polish Joke was a surprise hit for me - I loved the effect the fine gold shimmer glitter (whatever) had on the already bright and happy colours!

Edited: Here's one with the baby guinea pigs

End of Law School Celebration Nails!

I always thought I'd be full of energy and excitement and sprint to the finish line. But what really happened was that I dragged myself to, and stumbled across the line. My last exam ever (fingers crossed) was an overnight take home exam. It was released Monday at 9am and due to next day at midday. It was for IP, with questions about Hello Kitty copyright, Kiss songs and stupid exercise equipment patents. Let's just say it was not a rock and roll all night kind of exam.

I was determined to do something on Tuesday to mark to end of it. I had a glass of wine, and made my nails sparkly. I may feel flat, but at least my nails was bright.

Below I used my pink and gold Maybelline sequins polishes. The yellow is a new glow-in-the-dark polish from the Born Pretty Store. The insta-dry top coat caused some shrinkage. Very annoying.
